Xanax (alprazolam) is usually recommended for people older than 18 diagnosed with depression and anxiety and looking to get those symptoms under control. Xanax is supposed to be taken with the help of a special dropper (if you have been prescribed the liquid form or the tablet is supposed to be taken whole without crushing it. Xanax must not be combined with alcohol, grapefruit juice, as well as any drugs, such as isoniazid, propoxyphene, antifungal medications, birth control pills, cimetidine, diltiazem, antidepressants, or seizure medication as interactions have been reported. Let your doctor know immediately if you develop any serious side effects of Xanax. The following ones are considered serious side effects: hyperactivity, hallucinations, urinating less than usual, feeling light-headed, seizure, depressed mood, muscle twitching, suicidal thoughts, and yellowing of the skin or eyes. In most cases, however, you will get just a few mild side effects that are not necessarily supposed to be reported unless they change in intensity. The following mild side effects may be experienced: constipation, nausea, dry or watery mouth, drowsiness, sleep problems, lack of balance or coordination, vomiting, loss of interest in sex, weight changes, dizziness, and forgetfulness.
